In addition to being a mode of motor transportation, motorcycling has become a true subculture and lifestyle around the world. Motorcyclists tend to have a sense of community with each other.
While cars have always been the main transportation mode, the popularity of motorcycles has been increasing significantly throughout the past few years. In 2013 for example, the domestic sales (factory shipments) reached 419,398 units, which is an increase of 4.4% over the year before.
There are a lot of motorcycles types and models. You can get a motorcycle for sport and recreational use, commuting, cruising, long distance touring, or adventurous off-roading.
While reading this, you're probably asking yourself: why would I pick a motorcycle over a car? Why should I consider driving a motorcycle in Dubai?
To help you figure out the answers, we have put together a list of advantages and disadvantages of buying a motorcycle in Dubai.
Motorcycles pros and cons
It is not secret that motorcycles are not for everyone. In a lot of cases, picking a car is the ideal choice. Nonetheless, buying a motorcycle has a lot of advantages, too. Before making your decision, check out these pros and cons:
Pros
Motorcycles come in handy in traffic. If you are simply sick and tired of being stuck in traffic, motorcycles can be more practical than cars in this case. You can maneuver between cars and get to your desired place in time. Moreover, you can always find a parking space for your motorcycle.
A motorcycle is a cheaper and more convenient form of transportation for many riders. You could argue that some motorcycles aren't exactly cheap, but the vast majority will cost less than a car.
Motorcycles tend to get better gas mileage than most cars. You are surely going to burn less gas riding a motorcycle, unless you pick a top-notch sports bike.
Motorcycles are easier to maintain and service than cars. You can clearly see any damage done, and it’s usually much cheaper to fix than a car.
In general, motorcycles often maintain their resale value more than cars. This comes from the fact that motorcycles tend to not use as many miles as cars do.
Cons
Motorcycles can only be driven in good weather conditions. If the weather is rainy, stormy, or dusty, motorcycles don't come in handy. Even in extremely hot weather, driving a motorcycle may be unenjoyable.
Motorcycles lack storage space, which means shopping while riding a motorcycle isn’t as easy as it is while driving a car. Having any extra bags and items will be less convenient when you're riding a motorcycle.
Motorcycles are less safe than cars. Riding a motorcycle means that you will be more vulnerable to road risks. Wearing a helmet and other safety gear can improve safety dramatically, but it still not as safe as driving a car.
Owning a motorcycle means you have limited cargo/people capacity. So if you aren't a solo rider, buying a motorcycle isn't the wisest choice.
Cars endurance is typically longer than motorcycles. Most of cars tend to have more longevity than motorcycles. This of course depends on usage and driving conditions.
The aforementioned points will surely help you make up your mind. If you feel like buying a motorcycle in Dubai instead of a car is better for you, do your research and talk with experienced people that have done it right.
Search for new and used motorcycles for sale in Dubai and pick a model that suits your lifestyle, needs, and budget.
